Understanding Inflammation and Ways to Reduce it

What is inflammation?

It's the body's natural and healing response to an injury.

What are signs and symptoms of inflammation?

Symptoms of inflammation may include pain, heat, redness, swelling, and loss of function.


Types of inflammation

Inflammation can either happen in the short term (acute) or be a long-term response (chronic). A few examples of common conditions that can cause acute inflammation include:

  • An infected body part

  • A sore throat related to the flu

  • Dermatitis

  • Physical trauma

  • Sinusitis

  • Skin cuts and scratches

  • Acute bronchitis

A few examples of chronic inflammatory conditions include:

  • Inflammatory arthritis

  • Asthma

  • Periodontitis

  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

  • Eczema


How can you reduce inflammation?


You can reduce inflammation in your body by making simple lifestyle changes, such as:

  • Add Turmeric (Use in topical forms for pain relief)

  • Eat whole foods (1/2 of what you eat being fruits & vegetables)

  • Embrace movement (15-20 minute stretching or walking)

  • Use stress-reducing intervals (mediation, yoga, journaling, or reading)
